"A sophisticated take on vanilla, diffusing like a bright, soft cloud. I contrasted dark vanilla absolute with an overdose of modern white perfumer powders — as if the vanilla bean had been painted white."

Vanilla Powder is an overdose of dark vanilla contrasted by an explosion of contemporary white powders. Ecuadorian Palo Santo, a sacred white wood, brings structure and depth to this addictive composition. Created by Aurélien Guichard, Founder & Perfumer of MATIERE PREMIERE, it is a modern, enveloping and luminous scent.
Vanilla Powder, the olfactory signature
Vanilla Powder is built on a contrast between dark vanilla and modern white powders. This structure gives Vanilla Powder its addictive character and recognisable scent. The MATIERE PREMIERE approach involves starting with a strong raw material and building the entire fragrance around it.
A cloud of modern white powders and coconut powder
The opening of Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum is an explosion of white powders. Coconut powder dominates the top notes, lending a milky, luminous character. This powdery coconut accord, combined with heliotrope, creates a soft, contemporary effect. The opening is bold, recognisable from the very first seconds on the skin as well as on clothing.
Madagascar Vanilla Absolute: an addictive rush
At the heart of this eau de parfum lies Fair for Life Madagascar Vanilla Absolute, whose addictive character takes centre stage. This dark, textured vanilla, harvested from the volcanic soils of north-eastern Madagascar, is the addictive rush around which everything revolves. The pods mature for eighteen months before becoming supple, almost woody black ribbons. It is this dense material that Aurélien Guichard – the only perfumer in the world to cultivate his own ingredients – has chosen to bring to the fore.
Palo Santo and white musks: structure and sillage
Palo Santo Essence from Ecuador, a sacred white wood, brings structure and verticality to this fragrance. It gives the vanilla a woody backbone. White musks, particularly the base note of musk, envelop the composition, creating a contemporary and luminous sillage – an olfactory structure that lingers for hours. The longevity of MATIERE PREMIERE Vanilla Powder is remarkable on the skin, where body heat causes the fragrance to diffuse: the white powders gradually give way to dark vanilla and musks as the day progresses.
Vanilla Powder as an Eau de Parfum and a Parfum Extrait
Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum contains between 20% and 25% Madagascar Fair for Life Vanilla Absolute. This eau de parfum balances vanilla, coconut powder and white musks to create a contemporary, luminous and enveloping scent.
Vanilla Powder is also available as Vanilla Powder Extrait de Parfum. This version contains an even higher concentration – between 25% and 30% – of Madagascar Vanilla Absolute. A guest ingredient, Tonka Bean Absolute from Venezuela, makes an appearance, adding a new warm and rounded facet to the composition. The Extrait de Parfum reveals Vanilla Powder with greater depth, richness and warmth.
The Vanilla Powder collection brings together the entire olfactory universe created by MATIERE PREMIERE. Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum, Extrait, hair mist, moisturising milk, discovery set and samples allow you to explore the fragrance in its various forms. The samples offer the chance to try Vanilla Powder over several days and confirm that it’s a favourite. The gift set brings together both variants of Vanilla Powder, providing the perfect introduction before purchasing the full-size product, whether for yourself or as a gift.
Wearing Vanilla Powder every day
The Vanilla Powder bottle features MATIERE PREMIERE’s signature design, inspired by the perfumer’s everyday tools. The atomiser delivers a fine, precise spray. One or two carefully controlled sprays, just once a day, are sufficient. Vanilla Powder can be worn both during the day and in the evening, and is equally suited to winter – when the vanilla and woody notes come into their own – and to warmer seasons, when the powdery and musky notes lend an ethereal quality.
On the skin, Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum is applied sparingly to pulse points, wrists, the neck and the crooks of the elbows. To prolong the experience all over the body, the Vanilla Powder Hand & Body lotion leaves the skin soft and scented with the same accords of vanilla, white wood and musks.
On clothing, Vanilla Powder retains its scent for a long time; the trail remains detectable for hours after application. A scarf, jumper or collar continuously diffuses the fragrance throughout the day. The MATIERE PREMIERE Vanilla Powder signature thus unfolds between skin and fabric, in a contrast true to the vision of Perfumer & Founder Aurélien Guichard.
Frequently asked questions about Vanilla Powder
Which fragrance family does Vanilla Powder belong to?
Vanilla Powder belongs to the woody-vanilla fragrance family. The result is a new chapter in fragrance: a contemporary and addictive scent.
Is Vanilla Powder a gender-neutral fragrance?
Like all MATIERE PREMIERE creations, Vanilla Powder has no predefined gender. Aurélien Guichard composes for the raw material – in this case, Vanilla from Madagascar – and presents its essence, leaving it up to each individual to make it their own.
What is the difference between Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum and Vanilla Powder Extrait de Parfum?
