Metal Lavender is built around two types of lavender: a lavandin with a vibrant, metallic facets, contrasted by a softer, more floral lavender. This structure gives this lavender fragrance its unique character and recognisable sillage. MATIERE PREMIERE’s vision is to start with an overdose of a natural raw material and build the entire composition around it. Aurélien Guichard has followed this same creative approach with Metal Lavender, an eau de parfum (EDP) with a floral-musky scent profile. The formula for Metal Lavender consists of:

Organic Lavandin Essence from Grasse: the essence at the heart of the lavender fragrance

Lavandin grosso is a hybrid of lavender and spike lavender. It grows at lower altitudes than lavender. It is organically farmed in Aurélien Guichard’s fields, which are Ecocert-certified and members of the Fleurs d’Exception du Pays de Grasse. Continuous, entirely manual weeding preserves its olfactory purity. As the only perfumer in the world to grow his own ingredients, Aurélien Guichard places this raw material at the forefront of this lavender fragrance. Steam distillation extracts the lavandin essence, the source of the fragrance’s olfactory purity. Organic Lavandin Essence from Grasse imposes its metallic character at the heart of the composition. 

MATIERE PREMIERE, the Maison of Founder and Perfumer Aurélien Guichard

MATIERE PREMIERE is an independent French perfume Maison. Aurélien Guichard creates every fragrance himself. The Maison’s concept is based on an overdose of a central natural ingredient, a short and direct formula, and uncompromising quality. The fragrances contain between 85 and 92 per cent ingredients of natural origin. The bottle design and product experience are inspired by the perfumer’s tools and daily routine. Metal Lavender follows this approach and extends its creator’s olfactory vision. 

Haute-Provence Lavender Absolute

To prolong the signature lavender note, Aurélien Guichard has created a contrast between lavandin and an organic lavender absolute sourced from the Haute-Provence region, from estates situated at higher altitudes. The lavender absolute blends with the lavandin essence, lending Metal Lavender a floral facet. The two expressions of lavender interact within the composition – one with metallic undertones, the other softer. This contrast gives the lavender fragrance its balance, its radiance and its identity that defies convention.

Cashmeran and musks: the modern trail of the lavender fragrance

Cashmeran emphasises the woody-musky and mineral aspects of Metal Lavender. Musks envelop the whole, prolonging the vibrant and luminous trail, and providing extreme comfort. The metallic facets define the modern character of this unisex lavender fragrance. The result on the skin is long-lasting; the trail of Metal Lavender remains detectable for hours after application.
