A fixed selection of ten Eau de Parfum samples

The MATIERE PREMIERE fragrance discovery set contains ten 1.5 ml Eau de Parfum samples. This fixed selection is designed to give you the opportunity to try all ten of the Maison’s creations in a single order. The selection includes Vanilla Powder, Crystal Saffron, Radical Rose, Parisian Musc, Falcon Leather, Neroli Oranger, Encens Suave, French Flower, Bois d’Ébène and Santal Austral.

MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances contain between 85 and 92 per cent naturally derived ingredients. The formulas are vegan, phthalate-free and free from artificial colourants. They are not assigned a specific gender: each fragrance is intended for whoever wears it, transcending traditional categories.

Natural, vegan and gender-neutral formulas

Each fragrance in this discovery set is created by Aurélien Guichard, the House’s Founder & Perfumer. His approach involves selecting a natural raw material and using it in abundance at the heart of the composition, to create an immediate and recognisable olfactory signature. The choice of ingredients follows an olfactory logic: the terroir, the extraction methods and the craftsmanship of the artisans who cultivate or extract each ingredient determine the final result. 

Ten exceptional ingredients thus make up this set: Vanilla Absolute from Madagascar for Vanilla Powder, Ambrette seeds from Peru for Parisian Musc, Centifolia Rose Absolute from Grasse for Radical Rose, Greek Saffron Essence for Crystal Saffron, Birch Tar Oil from Finland for Falcon Leather, Incense Oil from Oman for Encens Suave, Organic Sandalwood Oil from Australia for Santal Austral, Orange Flower Absolute Fair for Life from Tunisia for Neroli Oranger, Absolute and Enfleurage Tuberose from Grasse for French Flower,  and Cabreuva Oil from Brazil for Bois d’Ébène. 

The fragrance families in the Eau de Parfum discovery set

The ten samples cover several olfative families from the collection. Floral notes are represented by Radical Rose, with its Centifolia rose, and French Flower, with its tuberose. Woody notes are found in Bois d’Ébène and Santal Austral. Amber and musk come to the fore in Crystal Saffron, whilst vanilla unfolds in Vanilla Powder and Encens Suave. Falcon Leather brings a leathery and smoky facet, Parisian Musc a musky signature, and Neroli Oranger a citrusy and floral facet. This diversity allows you to explore most of the Maison’s fragrance range in a single order.

Eau de Parfum: a concentration suitable for everyday wear

All ten samples in this set are in Eau de Parfum concentration, ranging from 20 to 25 per cent. This concentration offers a distinct sillage and longevity suitable for everyday wear, lasting one or more days depending on the fragrance being tested. Each sample thus provides an accurate impression of the fragrance in its full-size format, before a potential switch to a larger bottle.

It is ideal for those who wish to explore several scents at once, from floral and woody notes to musky and spicy accords. Each sample features the same concise formulation as the original bottle, in a 1.5 ml size.

How to use the samples from the set

On the skin

A fragrance unfolds differently on the skin. Body heat activates the scent and carries it throughout the day. Applied to pulse points – the wrists, the crook of the elbow and the nape of the neck – each sample allows you to test how a fragrance actually smells before choosing a larger size. Moisturised skin retains the fragrance better and prolongs its longevity.

On clothing

MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances can also be applied to clothing. The fragrance settles on the fabric and the scent accompanies the wearer throughout the day. It is advisable to test the fragrance on a discreet area first when using it on delicate fabrics.

MATIERE PREMIERE was born out of a unique approach to perfumery: an overdose of a central natural material, a minimalist formulation, and uncompromising quality. Aurélien Guichard personally cultivates Tuberose, Centifolia Rose and Lavandin – the three ingredients used in these compositions – in his Ecocert-certified fields in the Grasse region. This direct connection to the raw materials is reflected in each of the ten samples in the set.

A starting point towards a larger size

The fragrance discovery set thus serves as a starting point for identifying the signature scent that best suits each individual, before moving on – if you’re still in love with it – to a larger size from the collection.

Storage and everyday use

Each sample bottle should be stored away from light and temperature fluctuations, just like the larger sizes in the collection. Apply to the skin with one or two pumps onto a warm area. The MATIERE PREMIERE Hand and Body Care range – comprising moisturising milk and cleansing gel – prepares the skin to receive the fragrance and helps it last throughout the day.
