Ingredients grown in Grasse by Aurélien Guichard

Aurélien Guichard, Founder and Perfumer, is the only perfumer in the world to grow his own ingredients. In 2016, he established an Ecocert-certified organic field in his native region of Grasse. Centifolia Roses, Tuberose and Lavandin are grown there across more than six hectares. Each harvest is entirely dedicated to the production of a single fragrance.

The Centifolia Rose field, planted in 2018, now contains over 25,000 rose bushes. The Tuberose field, planted in 2021, comprises over 50,000 bulbs. Before the onset of winter, these bulbs are dug up and stored away, protected from frost. They are replanted in May. Over 10,000 lavandin plants were added to the estate in 2023. Which MATIERE PREMIERE fragrance should you give as a Christmas present?

The starting point is the ingredient the person enjoys: a floral or woody fragrance, a spice, vanilla and its gourmand notes, or musk. The fragrance family provides an initial clue. Vanilla Powder, Radical Rose and Metal Lavender cover three different categories. Each creation highlights a single ingredient, making the choice clearer.

What concentration and bottle size should I choose for a perfume gift?

The Eau de parfum has a concentration of between 20 and 25 per cent. For a higher concentration, our Extrait de parfum range from 25 to 30 per cent, with a richer texture and a longer-lasting scent. Vanilla Powder and Radical Rose are available as both Eau de parfum and Extrait de Parfum. The bottle sizes range from 6 ml miniatures – ideal as travel-sized perfumes – to 50 ml and 100 ml bottles.

Are MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances suitable for both women and men?

Yes. The Maison’s fragrances do not have a predefined gender. They are defined by their olfactive notes, not by the person wearing them. The women’s fragrance sets and men’s fragrance sets are the same here: each set is suitable for both women and men, depending on the notes the wearer prefers.

Can you give someone a perfume as a gift without knowing their preferences?

Yes. The discovery set contains samples of several fragrances, enough to try over a few days. A gift card allows the recipient to choose the fragrance themselves. They can therefore select their own scent.
