Natural, vegan and gender-neutral formulas

MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances contain between 85 and 92 per cent ingredients of natural origin. The formulas are vegan, phthalate-free and free from colourants. They are not assigned a predefined gender: each fragrance is intended for whoever wears it, transcending categories.

Six fragrances by Aurélien Guichard

Each fragrance in this discovery set of Extrait de Parfum is created by Aurélien Guichard, the Maison’s Founder & Perfumer. His approach involves selecting a natural raw material and using it in abundance at the heart of the composition, to create an immediate and recognisable olfactory signature. The choice of ingredients follows an olfactory logic: the terroir, the extraction methods and the craftsmanship of the artisans who cultivate or extract each ingredient determine the final result. Six exceptional ingredients thus make up this set: Greek Saffron Essence for Crystal Saffron, Centifolia Rose Absolute from Grasse for Radical Rose, Birch Tar Oil from Finland for Falcon Leather, Organic Sandalwood Oil from Australia for Santal Austral, Incense Oil from Oman for Encens Suave, and Vanilla Absolute from Madagascar for Vanilla Powder.

The fragrance families featured in the set

The six Extraits de Parfum span several olfactive families within the collection. Amber and musk come to the fore with Crystal Saffron, whilst the floral notes are represented by Radical Rose and its Centifolia Rose. Falcon Leather expresses a leathery and smoky facet, whilst Santal Austral offers a woody facet. Encens Suave develops a resinous and sensual character, whilst Vanilla Powder falls within the vanilla family. This diversity allows you to explore a large part of the Maison’s olfactory range in a single order.

Extrait de Parfum, a higher concentration

All six samples concentration in this set is ranging from 25 to 30 per cent, compared with 20 to 25 per cent for an Eau de Parfum. This higher concentration offers a richer sillage and longer-lasting wear. Each sample thus provides a faithful representation of the Extrait de Parfum in its full-size format, before a potential move to a larger bottle.

How to wear the Extraits de Parfum from the set

On the skin

A fragrance unfolds differently on the skin. Body heat activates the scent and carries the trail throughout the day. Applied to pulse points – the wrists, the crook of the elbow and the nape of the neck – each sample allows you to test how a fragrance actually performs on your skin before choosing a larger size. Well-moisturised skin retains the essence better and prolongs its longevity.

On clothing

MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances can also be applied to clothing. The scent settles into the fabric and the trail accompanies the wearer throughout the day. It is advisable to test the fragrance on an inconspicuous area first when using it on delicate fabrics.

MATIERE PREMIERE was born out of a unique approach to perfumery: an overdose of a central natural material, a minimalist formulation, and uncompromising quality. Aurélien Guichard personally cultivates Tuberose, Centifolia Rose and Lavandin – the three ingredients used in these compositions – in his Ecocert-certified fields in the Grasse region. This direct connection to the raw materials is evident in each of the six samples in the set.

The Extrait de Parfum discovery set thus serves as a starting point for identifying the olfactory signature that best suits each individual, before moving on – should you fall in love with a particular scent – to a larger size from the collection.

Storage and daily use

Each sample bottle should be stored away from light and temperature fluctuations, just like the larger sizes in the collection. To apply to the skin, use one or two pumps on a warm area. The MATIERE PREMIERE Hand and Body Care range, comprising a moisturising milk and a cleansing gel, prepares the skin to receive the essence and prolongs its longevity throughout the day.
