A bespoke perfume sample set

The MATIERE PREMIERE perfume sample set is customisable: 3 or 5 x 1.5 ml samples, to be chosen from the Maison’s Eaux de parfum and Extraits de Parfum, complemented by a complimentary sample based on the ingredient of the month.

Each sample comes in a 1.5 ml format, allowing you to experience the fragrance for a few days and compare the different olfactive families. Putting together your own set marks the start of your journey to discover several formulations before choosing the one that best suits your skin and style. The selection spans the entire collection: Eaux de Parfum and Extraits de Parfum, designed to reveal an overdose of a central natural material.

Natural, vegan and gender-neutral formulas

MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances contain between 85 and 92 per cent ingredients of natural origin. The formulas are vegan, phthalate-free and free from colourants. They are not assigned a predefined gender: each fragrance is intended for whoever wears it, transcending categories.

A variety of ingredients curated by Aurélien Guichard

Each fragrance in this discovery set of Extrait de Parfum is created by Aurélien Guichard, the Maison’s Founder & Perfumer. His approach involves selecting a natural raw material and using it in abundance at the heart of the composition, to create an immediate and recognisable olfactory signature. The choice of ingredients follows an olfactory logic: the terroir, the extraction methods and the craftsmanship of the artisans who cultivate or extract each ingredient determine the final result. This direct approach gives the fragrance sample set a genuine variety of ingredients to discover, from Centifolia Rose Absolute from Grasse to Greek Saffron Essence or Vanilla Absolute from Madagascar.

Eau de Parfum or Extrait de Parfum: a choice of two concentrations

The set comprises three or five samples, with an extra sample included free of charge. Each fragrance can be selected as an Eau de Parfum, with a concentration of between 20 and 25 per cent, or as an Extrait de Parfum, with a concentration of between 25 and 30 per cent. Both concentrations feature the same central ingredient, with a more assertive texture and a higher concentration.

The selection allows you to choose from all of the Maison’s creations: Vanilla Powder and its Madagascar Vanilla Absolute, Radical Rose and its Centifolia Rose grown in Grasse, Crystal Saffron and its Greek Saffron, Santal Austral and its Organic Australian Sandalwood, and Encens Suave and its from Incense from Oman. Each fragrance highlights a different central ingredient, chosen for its scent profile.

Putting together your own perfume sample set allows you to compare different fragrances before choosing a larger size. The way a fragrance develops on the skin varies from one scent to another, depending on its nature and concentration. Testing several samples gives you a direct sense of how each perfume evolves once worn, both on the skin and on clothing.

MATIERE PREMIERE was born out of a unique approach to perfumery: an overdose of a central natural material, a minimalist formulation, and uncompromising quality. Aurélien Guichard personally cultivates Tuberose, Centifolia Rose and Lavandin – the three ingredients used in these compositions – in his Ecocert-certified fields in the Grasse region. This direct connection to the raw materials is evident in each of the six samples in the set.

How to wear the Extraits de Parfum from the set

On the skin

A fragrance unfolds differently on the skin. Body heat activates the scent and carries the trail throughout the day. Applied to pulse points – the wrists, the crook of the elbow and the nape of the neck – each sample allows you to test how a fragrance actually performs on your skin before choosing a larger size. Well-moisturised skin retains the essence better and prolongs its longevity.

On clothing

MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances can also be applied to clothing. The scent settles into the fabric and the trail accompanies the wearer throughout the day. It is advisable to test the fragrance on an inconspicuous area first when using it on delicate fabrics.

A starting point towards a larger size

The fragrance discovery set thus serves as a starting point for identifying the signature scent that best suits each individual, before moving on – if you’re still in love with it – to a larger size from the collection.

Storage and everyday use

Each sample bottle should be stored away from light and temperature fluctuations, just like the larger sizes in the collection. Apply to the skin with one or two pumps onto a warm area. The MATIERE PREMIERE Hand and Body Care range – comprising moisturising milk and cleansing gel – prepares the skin to receive the fragrance and helps it last throughout the day.
